The Beauty of Sashiko Quilting Offering the largest selection
of Sashiko supplies, threads, stencils, books and patterns, Sashiko (pronounced: SA-Shi-KOE' - the "Shi" is almost silent) is a form of quilting originating from Japan centuries ago when farmers and fishermen practiced a running-stitch technique to patch torn or worn clothing. As cloth and thread were scarce, it was vital to mending. Sashiko means stab-stitch in Japanese, and refers to the small running stitch that is worked to build up distinctive patterns. Sashiko is the traditional Japanese technique of needlework quilting that uses a simple running stitch to create beautifully decorative patterns ideal for patchwork. Now you can create your own beautiful Sashiko with these 13" x 26" Sashiko samplers. The 100% cotton fabric has been preprinted on one half of the sampler (13" x 13") with easy to follow "wash-out" stitching lines. The other half has no design so you can add your own design or leave it plain. The samplers are perfect for pillows, purses, and quilting. In Japan, they are stitched through both layers, the edges hemmed and used as table napkins.
