SEVEN TREASURES |
Instructions for these quilts refer to male
and female Japanese fabrics. The terms are used to differentiate between the
large scale floral fabrics such as those seen in women's kimono, and the linear
designs found in the men's kimono. Female fabrics are multi-colored,
curvilinear, and often feature designs that migrate diagonally across the
fabric. They will often have medium to large scale floral designs
with gold or silver metallic highlights. Male fabrics are subdued in color
- usually only one or two colors in indigo, black, grey, maroon, gold, brown,
green or rust - and are characterized by a linear design. Uneven plaids,
stripes, and geometric shapes of a small scale are most appropriate.
