October 3, 2008

Greetings Everyone

It's definitely fall here in the Pacific NW, and all the leaves are turning those gorgeous colors of red, orange, and yellows.  Autumn leaves are also beautiful in Japan.  The Fall foliage is called "kouyou" in Japanese, and the kanji (Chinese characters) for "kouyou" means red leaves and also indicates Momiji, the Japanese Maple leaves.

These colors give us great inspiration for so many different projects.  We have a lot of these same colors in our Batik fabrics right now just calling out to be used as Fall foliage.

For those of you that like to decorate and embellish your fabric, we now have Shiva Paintstiks, rubbing plates, stencils, books, and an instructional CD in stock.

These are so much fun!  I took a class at Spring Market and had a great time decorating a placemat using several colors of the Paintstiks and the leaves and oriental words stencils.

With the holidays fast approaching, you might want to try making your own holiday cards using one of the Washi Paper Quilting Kits.  There are three this year - Christmas, Holiday and Winter Wonderland.

Washi Paper Quilting is based on a traditional Japanese doll making Technique called "kime-komi".  The handmade, silk screened washi paper enables you to adapt the "kime-komi" technique to create these unique "puffy" three dimensional cards.

There are also some gorgeous new Japanese papers designed by Zigen Tanabe.  He has also created coordinating rubber stamps to go with these new designs so be sure to take a look at both the page with the papers and the one with the stamps.

You'll also find new Yuzen paper designs at the bottom of the same paper page.

We've been adding to our Japanese Yukata fabrics including some from the Showa era.  These are old stock (1926 - 1989) but in new - not used - condition.

These fabrics are in the traditional indigo color and the print goes to both sides indicating that they were hand-dyed and stenciled rather than factory printed.  Our supplier in Japan has found us several others and we'll be adding those later in the month when they arrive from Japan.

Just scroll down towards the bottom of the Yukata fabric page to see these traditional Japanese fabrics.

You'll also find lots of new fabrics in the Coordinates section.  These marbelized looking fabrics would make great butterfly wings or floral motifs.   And, you don't have to wait until Spring for flowers in your garden quilt.  Just look at those big beautiful Morning Glories, Camelias and Pansies.

All our remaining Shop Hop fabric is on sale for $6.50 yard.  If you're looking for a nice accent fabric or a great quilt back, these fabrics are a perfect fit.  You'll find a nice scroll design in tan and green and several coordinating dot fabrics.
