Greetings Everyone

 Happy Mother's Day!

In Japan, Mother's Day, or "haha no hi," which is celebrated the second Sunday in May, was introduced after World War II. On this day, it is customary  for mothers to be lavished with presents and receive special attention from their families.  Red carnations, a symbol of admiration, are often given on Mother's Day.

Some typical Mother's  Day dishes included "Daigakuimo" (candied sweet potatoes), "Tonjiru" (pork miso soup), Spinich Gomaae (spinach salad with sesame sauce), and "Nikujaga" which is one of the most popular dishes in Japan and consists of thin slices of simmered pork or beef and potatoes.

We'd like to help you celebrate Mother's Day by giving everyone double punches on their Dragon Club cards this Sunday on Mother's Day.   After you enjoy church or that special family brunch, come by the shop this Sunday for your Mother's Day treat.   Double punches are not to be combined with any other sales or discounted items.

For our Internet Customers, all mail orders $50.00 and above which are placed Saturday and Sunday, May 10 & May 11, will receive FREE SHIPPING!  This offer is valid only within the Continental United States.

NATIONAL PET MONTH - QUILT BLOCK CONTEST

May is National Pet Month so we came up with a fun contest.   Create any 12" quilt block and feature a picture of your favorite pet or an animal that you would really like to honor.  You can use Printed Treasures and print your picture on fabric, or create your animal picture in appliqué or embroidery.  It can even be fabric featuring your favorite critter.  Use any technique you wish to create your pet block.

When you turn in your quilt block bring a can of food as your entry fee which we'll donate to a local food bank.

We'll take entries during May and June.  At the end of June, we'll have all the quilt blocks on display and have our customers vote for their favorite block.  The winner will receive a $50.00 Shibori Dragon Gift Certificate.

When the contest is done, we'll take all the blocks submitted and have them sewn into a quilt(s) which we'll donate to Children's Hospital.

Don't forget about the First Annual So. Sound Yarn Crawl next Friday, Saturday and Sunday,  MAY 16, 17 & 18.  You'll have a chance to visit 10 great shops for a chance to win $500 in Gift Certificates from the participating shops.  Each shop will offer something special in the way of a kit or event during the crawl so grab some friends and join the fun!

Passports are available at all participating shops.

For all the details, visit SO. SOUND YARN CRAWL

Joe and I will be off to Quilt Market this next week which is being held in Portland, Oregon.  We're so excited that it will be close enough for both of us to go and see all the new fabrics, threads, notions, patterns and other goodies.

I'm taking classes at Quilt Market with Amazing Angelina, Shiva Paint Sticks and Simple Silk Ribbon Embroidery.  I can't wait to bring all the fun products and techniques home to share with you.

Until next time,
