Greetings Everyone
We had a great time at the Tucson quilt show this past
week. What a fun show! While we enjoyed warm weather in
Tucson, there was a freak snow and ice storm at home. Some areas
had 30" of snow and no power for almost a week. I thought
you might enjoy seeing the planes being deiced at SeaTac airport.
Joe drove down earlier in the week and fortunately, after a 3 hour delay,
my plane was able to take off before the airport was shut down for two days.

HARI-KUYO - THE FESTIVAL OF BROKEN
NEEDLES
The Festival of Broken Needles
is celebrated in Japan, February 8th. In Japan, the kimono was the
customary attire for men as well as women, making kimono sewing a
popular cottage industry. On February 8, bent and broken needles are
collected and offered to Awaji-sama, the guardian deity of women for
continuing guidance. The needles are placed in cakes made of tofu to
wrap them with tenderness in gratitude for their service. These
small, humble but important tools in a woman's life are given a place of
importance for their service throughout the year.
To celebrate the Festival of
Broken Needles, we'll include a free package of Olympus Sashiko Needles
with each order of $75.00 or more through February 8th. Just type
BROKEN NEEDLE FESTIVAL in the comment section to receive your free
sashiko needles.
