Foxglove Cottage

Jeana Kimball, author of Loving Stitches - A Guide to Fine Hand Quilting and Virtues - Classic 19th Century Appliqué - brings us her favorite needles from England to make needle-turn appliqué easy and smooth. They are also useful for basting, hand piecing and quilting. The narrow shank of these fine needles glide easily through several fabric layers without hesitation. These English made needles are the highest quality needle available today, packaged in clear plastic tubes providing for easy storage.

Straw Needles

These needles are available in sizes 8 (largest), 9, 10, 11 (smallest),
and are packaged in clear plastic tubes, with 16 needles per container.

Size 11 - This needle is extra fine and flexible and preferred for intricate hand appliqué.

Size 10 - This needle is slightly thicker than the Size 11 and is ideal for most hand appliqué.

Size 9 - This needle is a little longer and stronger than the Size 10. It is excellent for basting and hand piecing.

Size 8 - The Size 8 is thicker, for added strength, but still allows for easy stitching through multiple quilt layers.
You may find, as Jeana did, that tiny quilting stitches are easily possible with the Size 8.
