DESIGNING A COLLAGE APPLIQUÉ ART QUILT

This easy technique gives you a fresh way of approaching your fabric stash and designing garments and quilts.  Learn how to create a background by fussy-cutting and collaging fabric prints together on a muslin foundation.  Add a focal point using a novelty print.  Your sampler design will be 18" x 22" - large enough to make a small wall hanging, vest front, tote bag, or pillow top.  The class includes a trunk show of June's collages.

Students should bring:  Small sharp scissors, lots of fine pins.   This is a design class only, no rotary cutter, ruler, or sewing machines.  Pen or pencil and paper only if you wish to take notes.

Students should also bring:

1 fat quarter muslin (or larger, since students can now choose what size project they want to create);

8-10 fabrics in a tight color story in a variety of prints, batiks, even stripes (solids don't work well for this technique)--
these can be anything from scraps to fat 1/8th to fat 1/4 sizes, about 1 yard total, better to bring more than less; 

Accent fabrics/zingers in scrap sizes;

A focal feature, such as the parrots in the sample.  (For Asian style the feature could be one or more geisha, kabuki actors, koi, cranes, etc. as long as the scale is large enough to dominate the background.);

Fusible web, fabric glue, glue stick or 505 spray.  (This is one of the few pieces I have used fusible web on--I prefer 505 spray.) 

Students receive a 10% discount on all store purchases the day of the class.
